Pipeline Explosion in Amuwo Idofin, Abule Egba: Many Houses Destroyed As Explosion Rocks Lagos (videos)

Residents of Surulere, Ijegun, Ikotun, Egbeda, Abule Ado, Okota, Isheri Olofin, FESTAC, Satellite Town in lagos State were left in panic on Sunday morning as a massive explosion occurred which left houses destroyed.

A pipeline reportedly owned by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in Abule-Soba community of Lagos state, exploded this morning 15th of March.

The explosion was so loud that residents of Surulere, Amuwo Odofin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Alimosho and environs felt the impact. The explosion left some of the windows shattered and ceilings pulled off.

Acccording the report, no casualties were recorded in the incident. Some residents have been able to come forward and give account of how things happened.

“The roof of our building is off and a nearby school is on fire,” an Abule Ado resident told reporters over the phone.

A resident of Egbeda said: “I was relaxing in the sitting room after returning from the church. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang and the doors shook like they were going to fall.”

The cause is yet to be known but an official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) told reporters that a pipeline exploded around Abule Ado in Amuwo Odofin local government area of the state.

The Federal Fire Service tweeted that its men are making efforts to get information on the incident.

“We are in touch with our men in Fire Stations around Badagry and Festac, we are trying to gather more information as regards the reported explosion in Lagos State, Nigeria. We are on it,” the service tweeted.

It is believed that activities of pipeline vandals led to the explosion. The casualty figure is yet unknown.
